Diploma in Facilities Management
The Diploma in Facilities Management course aims to provide the knowledge of integrated facilities management to the learners. Learners will know the importance of efficient facilities management for an organisation to be productive and cost effective. Learners will be knowledgeable in the coordination amongst departments for integrated facility management. Students will be taught on the effective management of resources and planning for facility management. This would also include the concerns for safety and health issues in job.
Graduates can look forward to a career in managing the facilities of an industrial, residential or office building.
Classroom sessions will include the use of innovative skills, group work, collaborative learning, and presentation & communication skills for a holistic learning experience.
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

The course consists of 5 modules:
- Foundation of Workplace Safety and Health
- The Business Environment
- Managing Physical Resources in a Business Environment

Foundation of Workplace Safety and Health
This module will give learners an introduction to the key importance of Workplace health and safety legislation and regulations and how these are applied in the construction environment to create a safe working condition.
This module will give learners an understanding of different type of hazards and risks associated with Workplace health, safety and welfare in an engineering workplace. Learners will be able to appreciate the purpose of enforcement agencies and their roles in complying with the related legal obligations.
Learners will be required to undertake risk assessments at the workplace and to appreciate the significant risks encountered in the workplace. Propose the measures to be taken to deal with them. Learners will be able to appreciate and apply the principles of reporting and recording accidents and incidents within a legal context.
Workplace health and safety in the workplace is about measures designed to protect the health and safety of employees, visitors and the general public who may be affected by workplace activities. Safety measures are concerned with controlling and reducing risks to anyone who might be affected by these activities.
The Business Environment
The aim of this module is to introduce to the learners the fundamental knowledge of a business organisation and the many elements that shape the nature of organisations operating in a complex business world.
Learners will be introduced to different types of organisations and its purpose of setting up. Learners will build on these experiences and learn to ‘walk in the shoes’ of owners, stakeholders and managers of organisations.
The Module introduces learners to a range of business activities. They will consider the purpose of different organisations and the influence of stakeholders and how businesses organise themselves through strategic planning and organisational structures.
Learners will then explore the dynamic nature of organisations through studying the impact of external (political, legal and social) influences on business operations. Learners will study the fundamental economic principles that impact on businesses.
By studying two different business environments, learners will gain some insight into how businesses operate in different parts of the world and how the development of a global marketplace impacts on all businesses
Managing Physical Resources in a Business Environment
The aim of this module is to introduce to learners the importance of physical resources to an organisation. Learners will develop their understanding of the role of the resources manager.
This module introduces learners to the importance that organisations place on the use of their physical resources. Greater awareness of the impact on the environment by the inefficient use of physical resources such as water, gas, oil and paper and the high costs involved in producing energy to support an organisation’s needs. This has resulted in organisations having to meet regulatory requirements such as emissions of toxic substances as well as seeking to reduce physical resource costs.
Learners will develop their understanding of the broad responsibilities and duties involved in the management of physical resources. The resource management function involves developing excellent negotiation skills in order to negotiate partnerships with suppliers and knowledge of relevant legal obligations that fall within the remit of resource management.
Organisations need to ensure the best use of efficiency, quality and waste management issues are addressed to improve performance and reduce costs. The module will shows learners that managing physical resources is a key function in organisations and that it involves obtaining and using materials, equipment, supplies, premises and energy in the most efficient way to achieve the organisation’s operational objectives. Organisations must also ensure that their physical resources are a safe and secure working environment for employees and meet all legal requirements.
Learners will need to appreciate that the maintenance and refurbishment of facilities are activities which require careful planning, ensuring compliance with organisational procedures and staying within budget.
Integrated Facilities Management
The aim of this module is to introduce the functions and responsibilities of facilities management within the context of an organisation providing services for residential, commercial and industrial building.
This module gives learners an introduction to the role and responsibilities and how to operate effectively as a facilities manager or supervisor in residential, commercial and industrial building.
Learners will develop an understanding of how facilities management fits within the structure of an organisation and the different ways in which facilities management services can be administered. On completion of this module, learners will have a better general understanding of facilities management role and responsibilities and also how essential it is for organisation to perform its daily task.
This module provides learners with an opportunity to develop the skills needed to devise and implement a project scope and scheme of work, and evaluate and present the project.
This module will develop learners’ skills in terms of the evaluation and resolution of realistic practical problems and the ability to work as part of a team. This module also enables the application of knowledge, understanding and skills developed in other modules, and where possible experiences from work, to a major piece of work. This module is designed to bring together small groups of learners into teams so that they can coordinate their individual skills and abilities.
The scheme of work should give individual learners an opportunity to take responsibility for their contribution to the outcome, and demonstrate their ability to work as part of a team. The brief will include an agreed timescale, within defined constraints, with the team working towards an acceptable and viable solution to the agreed brief.
Learners will also develop skills to carry out evaluations of the group project and be able to present solutions. The module will prepares them with actual work scenario when working on projects.
Scope of Study
Introduction to concepts, technological practices and basic task/job completion procedures in facilities management.
The module will consist of lectures, case studies, group discussions and demonstrations in classrooms.

Intake every 2 months.
The course duration is 9 months.
Maximum allowed period for the student to complete the course is 36 months.
Sunday: 9am to 6pm
Saturday: 6pm to 10pm & Sunday 6pm to 10pm
