The Pearson BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma in Business paves the way for learners to apply their knowledge and practical skills in the workplace. The qualification prepares learners for employment in the business sector and provides the pathway for them to be able to progress to a degree in business or one of its specialist areas.

Designed to provide a specialist vocational programme, learners are equipped with key concepts and practical skills linking the gap between academic advancement and career progression.

Learners studying for Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals in Business will be expected to develop the following skills during the programme of study:

  • cognitive skills of critical thinking, analysis and synthesis
  • critical and logical review of business information research
  • ability to read and use appropriate literature with a critical understanding
  • recognizing and utilizing different advantages of various business models
  • effective communication, oral and in writing, using a range of media widely used in business, e.g. the preparation and presentation of business reports
  • effective use of communication and information technology for business applications
  • effective self-management in terms of time, planning and behavior, motivation, self-starting, individual initiative and enterprise
  • self-awareness, openness and sensitivity to diversity in terms of people, cultures, business and management issues

Rules of Combination for Pearson BTEC Level 5 HND in Business

  • Qualifications credit value: a minimum of 240 credits
  • Minimum credit to be achieved at the level of the qualification (level 5): 125 credits
  • Mandatory core unit credit: 125 credits
  • Specialist unit credit: 115 credits
  • The requirements of the HNC have to be met
  • A maximum of 60 credits can be centre devised or imported from other QCF Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals Qualifications to meet local needs. Level rules and mandatory core units must not be changed.

Internet Marketing

On successful completion of this unit a learner will:

  • Understand marketing through the internet
  • Be able to use the internet for promotion using digital marketing communications

  • Be able to design an internet marketing plan.

Scope of Study

This will cover an analysis of the impact of the external operating and internal environment of the organization with analysis of the need to plan organizational strategies to ensure effective business performance together with an introduction to the techniques and methods of research.

The financial considerations, sources, decisions, and financial information to make decisions are also studied.

The internal nature of organizations from both a theoretical and practical viewpoint are covered with the intent of developing an understanding of the behavior of people within organizations and the significance of organizational designs and characteristics covering local, national and global environment.

Introduction to functions of marketing, sales planning and operations will be tackled with an understanding of the theoretical underpinning of economics.

Delivery Mode

The module will consist of lectures, case studies, role play, class exercises, games, tutorials and other appropriate learning methodologies to equip and to engage the students in a participative and dynamic mode of learning.

Assessment Methods

Pearson BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma is 100% assignment based. Assessment in this level is evidenced by the course work of the learners under the close supervision of the lecturer and/or tutor.  Assignments and assessments are developed based on the rigors of the learning outcomes and criteria set for each and every unit.

Should a learner fail to meet the criteria for passing a unit or module at first attempt, a one-time chance will be given to resubmit an evidence of their assignment subject to the guidelines of resubmission. A redo of the whole module shall take place if a learner fails to meet the assessment criteria at second attempt.

Each successfully completed unit will be graded as a pass, merit or distinction.

  • A Pass is awarded for the achievement of all outcomes against the specified assessment criteria
  • Merit and distinction grades are awarded for higher-level achievement

BTEC Higher Nationals are well-recognized internationally – the qualifications are currently delivered in 65 different countries.  Similarly with most progression pathways to degrees, the entry point for a learner is at the discretion of the international higher education centre. With English language as the main medium of communication in class, Coleman College believes that it will successfully assist students in meeting most of the requirement by other universities.

Employment Potentials

As a specialist vocational programme, BTEC Higher National Diploma in Business will equip learners with practical skills, knowledge and competence necessary for their job placement and career progression.

Age: At least 17 years old
Academic: Level 3 Diploma OR Higher NITEC OR 1 A Level Pass
Without the above entry requirement, student should be at least 30 years old with 8 years of working experience
English Proficiency: Minimum IELTS 5.5 or equivalent
